Iran’s export tomato is known as one of the most popular products for export and import. Iran ranks seventh in tomato production in the world. 126 hectares of land are under tomato cultivation every year.

Tomatoes belong to the eggplant family. This product can also be cultivated in the greenhouse. Therefore, it is often cultivated as an annual in all parts of the world.

Greenhouse tomato and its conversion products are one of the most important productions of conversion industries in the world.

Export of greenhouse tomatoes

Tomatoes are among the most popular export products in all countries of the world. But in Iran, due to reasons such as the high cost of the product compared to foreign competitors, significant wear and tear in the machinery of the production units and weakness in packaging, it has many problems. While tomato ranks second among greenhouse products after cucumber in the country.

Among the main greenhouse production areas in Iran, we can mention Jiroft, Kohnouj, Isfahan, Tehran, Yazd, Sistan and Baluchistan and Semnan. which is mainly produced and exploited in the months of December to June.

During the past years, the export of tomato paste has been one of the country’s most important exports in food production. Note that usually bulk export tomato paste has been requested by buyers. The export value of tomato paste in 2016 was 120 thousand tons worth 200 million dollars. The export markets of tomato paste have been Iraq, Afghanistan, Dubai, Pakistan, etc.

Italy, China, America, Spain, Portugal, Turkey are among the countries that export tomato paste, which are fierce competitors for the export of paste to Iran. On the other hand, countries like England, Japan, Germany and France are the biggest importers of tomato paste in the world.

Turkey is one of the countries that export tomato paste to Russia, which has a high capacity in the preparation of this food product, but the quality of this country’s products will never reach Iran’s export products.

It can be safely said that the provinces of Fars, Bushehr and also some cities of the country such as Abhar are the best producers of tomatoes in the world and the quality of tomatoes grown in these areas is not comparable to any other part of the world.

Suitable weight, pleasant taste, excellent color and taste are the characteristics of tomatoes grown in these areas, which are popular all over the world.
