Export garlic

Iran’s export garlic is cultivated in different regions of the country and according to the climatic conditions in these regions, the harvesting time of this product is also different in different time periods. For example, Hamedan syr is ready to be harvested in the middle of June, while its harvest time in Ardabil province is a month earlier, in the middle of May.

Iran’s target markets

Iran’s export garlic has been a popular product in the fruit and vegetable market of countries such as Russia, Iraq, Kuwait and China.

Every year, a significant amount of this special vegetable is sent to the mentioned countries for export.

If you intend to export fresh garlic to Russia, Turkey, or any other country that has a suitable market for selling this product, you should wait until mid-spring or early summer, depending on the cultivated area.

Otherwise, you should export dried garlic.

Types of export garlic

These two colors of garlic are harvested for domestic markets and for export to different countries along the Persian Gulf and are placed in customized packages.

·         White garlic
·         Red garlic

Red garlic can be easily distinguished from white garlic. The taste of this garlic is a bit spicy and it has good healing properties. Red garlic has properties that, in addition to improving the general health of the body of all people, also help to solve women’s problems. Fresh garlic for export can be found in Mughan plain, Ardabil, Tabriz and Tarem.

The amount of allicin in this garlic is higher.

Regular consumption of red garlic has a great effect in preventing the proliferation of cancer cells. The compounds of this garlic prevent abnormal changes in the cells and tissues of the ovary, breast and uterus.

Exported garlic has a unique taste with high quality.

All types of fresh garlic for export can be purchased in domestic markets through the sales agents of export agricultural products.

Because of its high quality, Iranian garlic has many fans in international sales markets, and the number of its customers is increasing every day.

Exported dry garlic has different sales prices than garlic sold in domestic markets because their production costs and supply costs are not the same.

High-quality dry garlic has the basic properties of fresh garlic, and by consuming it, you can benefit from the wonderful and useful properties of fresh garlic.

Top exporters of garlic in the world

The total value of garlic exports by garlic exporting countries in 2016 was about 4 billion dollars.

Asian countries accounted for 74.4% of garlic exports worth 2.7 billion dollars.

The countries of China, Spain and Argentina have occupied the first to third ranks of garlic exports.

The course of Iran

The largest sale of Iran’s garlic exports has been made to Russia, which has a share of about 85 percent of the exports of this product. Exports with a high share limited to one country increase the risk of exports.

In order to diversify garlic exports, different tools can be used, such as export subsidies, preferential tariffs, or transportation subsidies for exports to target countries.

Exporting garlic producing provinces

One of the important export goods in the country is garlic, which, in addition to direct consumption by the household, has a special use in industrial matters, including preservatives and use in the production of medicine. The most important pole of garlic production for export is Hamadan province, whose share has been around 62 percent of the total garlic production in the country over the past years, and it has a share of 25 percent of the area under cultivation of this product in the country.

Establishing garlic export terminals in producing provinces

The establishment of garlic export terminals in the provinces, considering that Ardabil, Hamadan, East Azerbaijan, Gilan provinces are the poles of export garlic production, will lead to the reduction of export time and speed up this matter.

This issue will play an important role in reducing transaction costs and increase business productivity.

This issue leads to a decrease in the cost of trade and an increase in competitiveness in international markets.

Sustainable export

Iran’s export course is not sustainable in the form of supply-oriented and cannot maintain its acceptable competitiveness.

Paying attention to consumer needs and demand-oriented exports is one of the basic principles for garlic exports, which leads to sustainable and competitive exports.

Gaining information and awareness of the quality of consumption in the target country can lead to a successful export.

Ensuring export product safety

There are always health and safety concerns regarding food and agricultural products.

Before proceeding with the export, one should get detailed information about the quarantine conditions, how to obtain health and health certificates, so that it does not lead to the return of the cargo from the target market.
